Only children like the idea of getting older, most adults want to halt the aging process or even set it going backwards, if they could. However, as we all know, that is impossible, which is why they invented the next best thing, day spas, beauty salons and all the creams, lotions and treatments that they provide to endeavour to stem the results of aging.
And to be fair, some of them can do a fairly decent job. In this piece, we will look at the services provided by day spas. A day spa is comparable to a beauty salon but with water events provided as well. A day spa is an extended beauty salon and might be situated in a larger premises, particularly if there is a swimming pool included.
The foremost difference between a beauty salon and a day spa is that in a beauty salon, you are given all your treatments and then you leave, whereas in a day spa, you can dawdle a bit in between treatments or remain in the pool or sauna longer than the allotted 15-20 minutes, if you want to.
A day spa is more peaceful and individuals tend to spend more time in them. There might even be a bar or a juice bar or / and a cafe to buy light, health snacks like a salad or a vegetarian sandwich.
One of the most popular treatments at a spa is the massage. There are different sorts of massage, so it might take you a while to find your favourite if you have not undergone a massage before. Some of the types of massage often on offer are: Thai massage, Japanese massage, full body massage, oil massage and a foot massage. Additionally, some spas will put hot towels on your face to clean out pores and hot stones on your spine for deep heat.
You might also fancy a body wrap or a mud pack or even a mud bath! These treatments can really make your skin look younger by deep cleaning the pores of pollutants, make up and everyday grime. They make you feel ten years younger for a while, but they tighten up the skin and make you look younger for a time too.
Maybe you would rather concentrate on your hands and / or feet? Then you could have a full manicure and / or pedicure. These treatments could include a local massage, skin and nail treatments followed by an oil treatment. You could also be given a foot spa, which is like a mini-jacuzzi. A foot spa is fantastic if you have been on you feet all day. They may also use heated socks or gloves.
Half an hour in a hot tub, a jacuzzi or even a steam box are other services that may be there at day spas which you are unlikely to find in a beauty salon. When you arrive at the day spa, check out any cheap day packages. You can often save a bit of money on the individual treatments supplied.

Have you ever thought about getting away from it all and going on a colossal detox mission? There is a great deal to be said for giving your body a break from all the pollution, smoke, noise, fast-paced lifestyle and stress and the substances that we use to deal with that stress like alcohol, tobacco, coffee and worse. It is not so bad while your body is young, but as it gets older, it becomes less capable of countering all the stuff we give it to handle.
Costa Rica might sound like a long way to go to visit a spa or health resort, but it is just a flight away. The reason for selecting Costa Rica is because it is like a home from home for Americans, but the ambiance is a lot slower and more easy-going. There are lots of health spas and retreats to choose from in Costa Rica and a brief search on the Internet will reveal many of them.
Spanish is the foremost local language, but English is spoken by more than ten percent of the adult population and tourist facilities are well developed in the form of exchanging currencies, restaurants and hotels. The country is unpolluted and environmentally friendly.
For example, according to Wikipedia, Costa Rica is ranked third in the world and first among the Americas in terms of the 2010 Environmental Performance Index and in 2007, the government announced that it intended for Costa Rica to be the first carbon neutral country by 2021. Moreover, the Happy Planet Index rates Costa Rica as number one in the world and also as the “greenest country in the world”.
Where better could you go to escape pollution and stress than a health spa or retreat in such a country? Many of the resorts offer stress reducing schemes that include methods of relaxation such as yoga, meditation, reiki, massage and tai-chi, although there are lots of places offering water sports such as diving, sailing and surfing. There is fantastic diving to be had in warm, clear water, which is teaming with flora and fauna.
Prices are low when compared with the United States. You can get a hotel or a room in a retreat for $25-$50 and up and a good meal will cost $2-$4. There are all sorts of food but particularly the types of food associated with Spanish and American cuisine. Vegetarians are well catered for as well and there is fish and other seafood in profusion for those who rather it to meat.
Some of the health spa resorts have rooms for you to stay in while others offer just day time courses. The retreat style resorts are live-in and many are similar to communes. The facilities vary from being ‘hippyish’ and pretty basic in some of the retreats to being as modern as anywhere in the world in the health spas, offering swimming pools, gymnasiums and hot tub spas.
All in all, if you are thinking of going abroad for a healthy, restful break, a vacation in Costa Rica ought to be on your short list.

The scientific name for the upside down jelly fish is Cassiopeia xamachana and is often found in the waters of southern Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean sea and also in other waters of the tropics. It is mostly seen in shallow waters as also in mangrove swamps and lives on planktons as well as the food produced by the symbiotic algae that dwells within its body. In zoos, the upside down jelly fish is fed on marine invertebrates, and zoo planktons.
Other specific features of upside down jelly fish regarding the size is that they can reach a diameter of 12 to 14 inches. Their reproduction is done in sexual manner in one part of their life and asexually in another part. They have a glowing appearance in the dark and contain symbiotic golden algae. On the outside, they have lacy frilly ruffles.
Upside down jelly fish have about forty small mouth openings. These invertebrates contain 95% water in their bodies. The rest is made of salt and protein. Generally, the upside down jelly fish is found at the bottom of the water and is often mistaken for a sea anemone. It stings, but this is not poisonous and it doesn’t sting very often. The symbiotic algae that live in their bodies help to produce oxygen and it is this that helps the upside down jelly fish to easily live even in water that doesn’t have much oxygen in it.
In the southwestern Pacific is found the white spotted jelly fish invasive species with a maximum bell size of 28 inches, but the average size is about 17″ to 19″. Their venom is not much and can be easily cured with the help of vinegar or even salt water, and hence they are no threat to the human species.
However, the white spotted jelly fish invasive species is a threat to other marine inhabitants and this is because it consumes the eggs of larvae of some important fish species, as also a lot of planktons. By consuming about 13,200 gallons of sea water, the white spotted jelly fish invasive species takes in all the surrounding planktons, thus posing a threat to the survival of other inhabitant species. Many types of shrimps too are threatened by the white spotted jelly fish invasive species.

On the western and eastern coasts of North America in both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, is to be found the sea nettle jelly fish or Chrysaora. It generally has its body covered in white dots and reddish-brown stripes and seems saucer-shaped. Its four oral arms are present on the underside of the body and all along the outer edge it has tentacles a few feet long.
In the tentacles of the sea nettle jelly fish are present nematocysts and the tentacles have a barbed look. There are toxins present in the nematocysts and with the help of this it paralyzes its victim. The tentacles, on coming in contact with any hard foreign body, get pressed and this activates the nematocysts. The toxins start releasing and entering the prey and this is the way it catches hold of food.
On coming in contact with any other large predator too, the sea nettle jelly fish uses the same tactics and paralyzes it. Smaller prey may also get killed by the toxins and on humans too the sting might create a mild to severe reaction. The sting of the sea nettle jelly fish results in a rash which burns at times. It could even set up an allergic reaction, but one must realize that the sea nettle jelly fish does not purposefully attack a human. It is up to us to stay clear of its habitat, as its sting is only part of its natural defense for survival purposes.
You can even choose to buy jellyfish to keep as pets in your fish tank, as many people are not happy any more with the common goldfish in their tanks.
